When survivors come to Sojourner Center, they are often not coming alone. For many, their family includes beloved pet companions who have provided comfort, protection, and unconditional love during incredibly difficult moments. At Sojourner Center, we believe healing should never require leaving family behind, including the four-legged ones.

Recently, a survivor arrived with a dog she had found just before entering our program. Soon after, she learned the dog was pregnant with three puppies. With the help of our trusted partners at Lost Our Home Pet Rescue, plans were put in place to ensure each puppy will be placed in a loving, permanent home once they reach eight weeks old. Through collaboration and care, both survivor and pets are supported every step of the way.

By welcoming pet companions into our programs, Sojourner Center honors the full picture of family. This holistic approach helps reduce barriers to safety, ease trauma, and create a more compassionate path forward for survivors and those who rely on them most.
