Lisa, after living in fear and intense violence for nearly a decade, finally found a window of opportunity to leave with her 3 year-old son.
After her husband left for work, Lisa realized that he hadn’t locked the double deadlocks on the
back door of their home. Lisa called her neighbor at work and created an escape plan. Her neighbor had offered to help in any way she could after hearing countless conflicts from across their shared backyard.
Lisa jumped over her back fence with her son and waited in her neighbor’s carport for her to help bring Lisa to safety. She arrived at Sojourner Center with only a purse and her frightened child. Both were in need of medical attention. Here, they received the care and services they needed to heal. Lisa and her son are now healthy and living the life Lisa had always hoped for, free of violence.

Giving Tuesday is a global movement inspiring hundreds of millions of people to give back and celebrate generosity. Sojourner Center aims to raise $10,000 this Giving Tuesday, November 29th, to help us provide the best shelter and care for those in our community impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. $50 – A meal for a survivor and her children
$100 – Case Management sessions for survivors focusing on safety planning, self-sufficiency, and housing.
$250 – Lay legal assistance for a survivor of violence including court accompaniment and connection to legal resources
$400 – A month of childcare services at our Child Development Center focused on specialized, trauma-informed educational services
$800 – A month of housing and supportive services for a survivor of violence in transitional housing program
