Lauren*, a survivor of domestic violence, reached out to our Community Outreach and Lay Legal staff for help getting an Order of Protection. We provided resources for safety planning, court information, and preparation for her hearing.
On the day of her appointment, Lauren felt nervous. She had never felt able to speak up for herself without fear of a negative reaction. When it was time to address the judge, she spoke with confidence and shared her experience.
The judge granted the Order of Protection. Lauren could finally go home and feel safe after weeks of restless nights. She continued working with our staff to build a safety plan and address concerns about her abuser’s access to her personal information. She was now in a stable position to move forward.
