When Lily* came to Sojourner Center with her dog, Pancake*, she stepped into a supportive and welcoming space. Our Pet Companion Services team connected Pancake with onsite services as well as trusted community partners who provided essential medical care, behavioral assessments, and training to help him thrive.
Lily enjoyed the program’s amenities, which gave her more time to spend with Pancake. She regularly took him to our onsite pet park to practice his agility skills. Morning after morning, they worked on his jumps until he could perform his tricks without much direction. For Lily and Pancake, their time in our Emergency Shelter became a period of healing, growth, and companionship.
Pet Companion Services at Sojourner Center provides more than place to stay for pets. It creates opportunities for survivors and their animals to grow their bond and heal together. By welcoming pets in both our Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing programs, we help ensure that every furry companion receives the safety, care, and comfort they deserve alongside the people who love them.
