Empowerment is one of our core values at Sojourner Center. A fundamental way of supporting our survivors is by ensuring they are equipped with all the essential tools to thrive in their educational pursuits. This summer, we were able to support nearly 40 of the school-aged children in our programs with school supplies, uniforms and backpacks. This helps the survivors we serve feel empowered to confidently take on the new academic year.
We also care greatly about the academic efforts of our adult survivors. Emily, a woman seeking refuge from emotional and financial abuse, joined our Community Outreach program. She recognized the need for a laptop to organize her files and help her work towards her academic goals. Advocating for herself, Emily connected with her case manager and together they secured Emily a Chromebook. Emily was incredibly grateful for this support and felt empowered to work towards her goals.
