Dear Sojourner Center Family and Friends,
Today and together we face a new reality. The continued and growing concerns over COVID-19 are settling into our daily lives leaving all of us with concerned hearts and minds. We share your concerns. Sojourner Center’s COVID-19 Response Team continues to work tirelessly to mitigate risk while our staff continue to provide high-level services to the domestic violence survivors in our care.
As we continue to monitor federal and local organizations’ recommendations and actions, we have had to make significant changes to our programs, staffing patterns, overall movement on and around our campuses and to our ongoing fundraising and community engagement activities. Many of these changes have and will cause a significant increase in costs to support Sojourner Center in this temporary, yet new reality.
- Food Service
- Increased food costs due to schools closing
- Increased food costs due to participants being asked to stay from home and school
- Cleaning products & paper supplies
- Increased cleaning costs due to regularly scheduled cleaning and disinfection of common areas, offices, session rooms and participant rooms
- Quarantine Space
- Preparation of safe spaces for quarantined and/or vulnerable participants
- Overtime for staff
- Some staff will need to adjust to their family’s lives and daily pattern changes. This will cause unanticipated overtime expenses as well as an increase in paid time off requests
- Postponed Annual Fundraising Luncheon
- Together We Thrive, was scheduled for Wednesday April 29th at the Orange Tree Golf Resort. Due to COVID-19 concerns, this event was postponed until late October. We had anticipated a minimum net revenue of $100,000 for the event.
Quite often we tell you, our friends and family, that we couldn’t do this work without you. It’s a true statement for sure, but more true today now than ever. That is why we’re asking for your help today.
We ask that you consider making a gift to sustain Sojourner Center’s daily operations during and beyond this pandemic. Today we have 58 adults, 88 children, 13 dogs, 5 cats and 2 fish living on our two campuses.
Please ensure the families currently living at Sojourner Center have the support they need to stay with us and to not only overcome the impact of this Coronavirus outbreak, but to ultimately overcome the impact of domestic violence in their lives.

With gratitude,
Sojourner Center Leadership
