Imagine leaving everything behind in the middle of the night, carrying nothing but the clothes on your back, all to escape an abusive partner. For many, it’s unimaginable. But for Sara, this was reality. Fleeing domestic violence meant not only leaving her home but also facing the unknown with nowhere else to turn. In that moment, Sara became homeless, seeking a way out for herself and for the new life she was carrying.

When Sara reached out to Sojourner Center’s Emergency Shelter, she found a safe refuge to start the journey of rebuilding her life. Sara gave birth to her baby just a short time after arriving. Sojourner Center provided her with a safe space, compassionate support, and essential resources that allowed her to focus on healing and building a stable future for her and her child.

Once she had stabilized, Sara took the next step forward by securing a spot in Sojourner Center’s Transitional Housing Program. Her new apartment was furnished with the basics to support her and her baby’s journey as she learned to manage her household as a single parent. For the next two years, Sara will have a safe, supportive place to live while she learns valuable skills, finds steady employment, and works with our case managers on a long-term housing plan.
