The teenage years are a time for growth, change, and self-discovery. While this transition can be exciting, it brings unique challenges like building self-esteem. It’s common to feel awkward and out of place during adolescence, but when left unaddressed, it can deeply impact a teen’s confidence.

National Teen Self-Esteem Month is a campaign dedicated to promoting teenagers’ self-confidence and self-worth. Self-esteem is shaped by many variables, including a teen’s environment and the people in their life.  A teen who witnesses or experiences domestic or sexual violence can significantly lower their self-esteem. Harmful language and physical violence can leave a teenager feeling unvalued, unheard, and unloved. Improving self-esteem can lead to better decision-making and healthier relationships.

If you know a teenager experiencing violence, learn how to support them here.
