May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to check in with ourselves and one another. This year’s theme, More Good Days, Together, encourages us to reflect on what a good day looks like. Together, we can support our friends, family, and community to make good days possible for us all.
Mental health is especially important for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Their days can be unpredictable, shaped by fear, trauma, and ongoing safety concerns. Many survivors experience conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, and/or depression, which can affect their physical health, relationships, and coping mechanisms long after the abuse has ended.
It takes courage to seek help, but it is a crucial first step. With the right resources, we can make good days possible. That may look like finding a job, stable housing, eating three meals or getting a peaceful night of sleep. Together, we can help create more of these moments, building good days survivors will carry with them forever.
We invite you to learn more about helpful resources for survivors and our community. Take care of yourself and those you love.
