Dear Sojourner Center Friend and Supporter:

I want to take a moment to introduce myself as the Interim Executive Director of Sojourner Center, and tell you a little bit more about the leadership changes currently taking place at the organization.

I stepped into the role of Interim Executive Director of Sojourner Center earlier this week with the goal of ensuring that the operations of this incredible organization continue uninterrupted and unaffected as the Board of Directors works to select a new leadership team.

Already, I am humbled and honored to work with the incredible and dedicated group of professionals on our staff as we strive every day to help survivors of domestic violence overcome trauma and lead rewarding and violence-free lives. The work done here each day is truly inspiring, and makes an extraordinary difference for those in our care.

By way of background, I have extensive experience in management, consulting and leadership in organizations that work to promote health and well-being. My goal in this interim position is to not make sweeping changes. My goal is to ensure the professionals that are providing critical services to domestic violence survivors have the support they need to fulfill the organization’s mission.

I also want to briefly address the article about the leadership transition that ran on azcentral.com on Friday. While we have no issues with the facts reported in the article, I want to be absolutely clear that despite the change in Sojourner Center’s leadership, we have no intention of making significant changes or cuts to programs in the near future.

While the organization has incurred financial losses the past few years as it has expanded programs and dealt with some reductions in government funding, Sojourner Center continues the day-to-day operations being performed by our staff as usual.

The Board of Directors will conduct a comprehensive search process to find the right team to lead Sojourner Center into the future. Ultimately, the Board and the new leadership will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure the long-term fiscal stability of the organization while also ensuring that we continue to serve in the most professional and effective manner possible.

And, we are also working to re-establish Sojourner Center’s relationship with the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, and have had positive communications with their leadership over the past few days.

I’m here to help in any way I can to advance Sojourner Center’s vision of a world free from domestic violence.

The work done here each day amazes me, and I’m already seeing first-hand the difference this organization makes for women and families in need. During this transition, I invite people throughout our community — whether they are survivors of domestic violence, supporters of the organization, staff, volunteers or anyone with an interest in what we do — to reach out and connect with us.
