Sara Candelaria

Sojourner Center is proud to have a passionate Advisory Committee made up of community members who help amplify our mission. One of those individuals is Sara Candelaria, Assistant Vice President at Desert Financial Credit Union, devoted mother of two, and fierce advocate for women and children.

Sara was first introduced to Sojourner Center in 2022 and felt an instant connection. “The work done by Sojourner aligns very closely with my personal values and past life experience,” she shares. Having faced loss and abuse herself, Sara understands the power of compassion and support during life’s darkest moments. “When I struggled to see a way through, I experienced genuine human kindness from others. That made a tremendous difference in my life.”

Now, as a mother of two young daughters, Sara says she sees the importance of breaking cycles of abuse even more clearly. “This work can be the way out of what seems like a hopeless situation, and it can stop the cycle of abuse in our society.”

Sara finds her time on the Advisory Committee deeply fulfilling. “Whether it’s connecting with fellow members, volunteering, or participating in meetings, I feel connected to a cause that is deeply personal,” she says.
