When Shannon first arrived at Sojourner Center’s Emergency Shelter, she was facing significant challenges. She did not have custody of her daughter, Kimmy, due to homelessness. Shannon embarked on her healing journey determined to turn her life around and reunite with her child.
From the moment she stepped into our shelter, Shannon’s primary goal was regaining custody of Kimmy. She navigated the legal processes with the support and resources provided by our dedicated team. Shannon welcomed Kimmy back into her care, marking the beginning of a new chapter.
Balancing the responsibilities of being a single mother while searching for stable employment was daunting. However, Shannon’s determination shone through. Shannon sought job opportunities while our Child Development Center staff cared for Kimmy. Her persistence eventually paid off, and she secured a stable job that provided the foundation for a brighter future.
Shannon and Kimmy then moved into our Transitional Housing Program, where they could continue building their new life together. During this period, our Child Development Center staff identified that Kimmy was developmentally behind her peers and exhibited signs of a developmental delay. With guidance Sojourner Center staff, Shannon navigated the healthcare system and enrolled Kimmy in the appropriate therapies.
Today, Shannon and Kimmy are thriving. Shannon’s employment has provided them with financial stability and Kimmy is making significant progress in her developmental therapies, showing remarkable improvement each day. Sojourner Center’s Transitional Housing Program has given them a safe and supportive environment to call home.
