July 30th is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. This year, the United Nations campaign highlights the role law enforcement and the criminal justice system play in reducing trafficking networks and protecting survivors.
Human trafficking takes many forms, including forced labor, sexual exploitation, slavery, servitude, and organ removal. Traffickers use threats and coercion to force women, men, and children into these conditions. According to the United Nations, more than 200,000 cases of human trafficking were reported globally in recent years, though many more go unreported.
