a woman with her hand on her face

Sarah married the love of her life and thought that the abuse from her childhood was behind her. Unfortunately, her husband started to abuse her on the second day of their honeymoon. It began verbally and escalated to daily physical abuse. After being rescued by a friend, Sarah came to Sojourner Center with two small suitcases and not much else.

Sarah began her journey to rebuilding her life with the support of her case manager. She identified goals and courageously worked to achieve them. Each day she persevered, tapped into her resilience, and created a life she deserved.

Sarah was able to turn her life around and ultimately moved from shelter to transitional housing and then to her own apartment. She opened up a designer consignment store that returns its proceeds to a charity she founded that works to stop child sex trafficking in Asia.

Sarah’s story demonstrates the powerful transformation that happens emotionally, mentally, and physically to a survivor who walks through the gates of Sojourner Center.
