In an article published today in the Arizona Republic, reporter Russ Wiles highlights the unique collaboration between Sojourner Center and Lost our Home Pet Foundation that resulted in the creation of our Pet Companion Shelter.
“The whole idea of going to a domestic-violence shelter was terrifying to me,” said Quijano, 26, who spent four months at the facility before finding other living arrangements. Bringing along her four-legged friends, housed in separate dog and cat boarding areas, helped ease the transition. “Pets were part of what made me feel whole and happy,” she said.
