t-shirts on a line in front of a window | Clothesline

Every April, during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Sojourner Center participates in the Clothesline Project. The Clothesline Project is an initiative that raises awareness about sexual violence and honors survivors. The Clothesline Project began in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women, providing a platform for survivors to express their emotions and experiences through art.

Our version of the Clothesline Project at Sojourner Center invites survivors impacted by sexual violence to decorate a t-shirt with a design that represents empowerment and healing. These shirts are then hung up around the Clubhouse, where our participants gather for meals and community activities.

Each shirt tells a story of strength and resilience, serving as a visual reminder of what our participants have and continue to overcome. The Clothesline Project not only raises awareness within our community but also provides a therapeutic outlet for survivors to express their emotions and reclaim their voices.
