April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a time dedicated to raising awareness about sexual violence and promoting prevention efforts. For Sojourner Center, SAAM holds particular significance as we continue our mission to empower survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking.

This year, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) has chosen the theme “Building Connected Communities” for SAAM. This theme emphasizes the importance of addressing social and structural determinants of health, such as education, income, employment, community safety, and social support. These factors play a crucial role in shaping the conditions in which we live, learn, work, and play.

In a connected community, individuals look out for one another and make choices that promote health, safety, and well-being. This approach not only helps prevent sexual violence but also contributes to overall health equity. Health equity ensures that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to achieve their best possible health and well-being.

At Sojourner Center, we are committed to building connected communities where survivors of sexual violence receive the support and resources they need to heal and thrive. Through our programs and services, we strive to create a safe and supportive environment where survivors can access the help they need to rebuild their lives.

This SAAM, let’s raise awareness, support survivors, and work towards building connected communities where everyone has the opportunity to live free from violence. Follow along on our socials and share our posts with your community.
