Each year, the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family (GOYFF), along with state and community partners, hosts the Lighting AZ Purple event to raise awareness for domestic violence throughout Arizona. This event reaffirms Arizona’s commitment to supporting survivors and families impacted by domestic and sexual violence.

Kaleigh Nielsen, Sojourner Center’s Community Outreach Coordinator, recognizes the significance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM):

Coming together during Domestic Violence Awareness Month is vital to raise awareness, support survivors, and promote prevention. Participating in and sharing community events helps break the silence, challenge harmful norms, and create a culture of safety and respect for all. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect in all relationships.

On October 4th, attendees can participate in a one-mile Awareness Walk and the Community Resource Fair, where they can connect with community members, service providers, and advocates. Join us and stand in solidarity with survivors and take action for a safer Arizona.
