Save a Bed Campaign

The Save a Bed Campaign is a fundraising initiative that was launched in response to severe funding shortfalls that threaten to force us to close beds. During the 2009 fiscal year Sojourner Center received monetary cuts from third-party events, but its largest cut of $370,000 came from the Department of Economy Security (DES). DES is Sojourner Center’s largest government funder and the current shortfall and cuts for the 2010 fiscal year have threatened the organization’s ability to provide safe shelter beds to families in need. At a cost of $55 per bed per night, the Save a Bed Campaign’s goal is to raise $525,000 enough to support 7,200 nights of shelter. It will ensure that the beds that are now ready to receive women and children fleeing domestic violence will continue to stay open and available. The Save a Bed Campaign will run until June 2010.

Currently, Sojourner Center has raised over 70 percent of its goal!

“Many individuals wonder why women don’t leave abusive relationships. One answer is that they often have nowhere safe to go.
Safety is a basic human right. If we cannot provide safe shelter, we will be partnering with the abuser, making it impossible for women and children to leave.  Supporting the Save a Bed Campaign tells the abuser that we will not tolerate further violence.
